Individual Counselling in Lethbridge

Healthy relationships begin with the relationship you have with yourself.

Sometimes life doesn’t fall apart all at once.

You may simply notice that you’re feeling more anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck than you used to. Maybe you’re constantly overthinking, questioning yourself, struggling in your relationships, or wondering why the same patterns keep showing up.

Whatever has brought you here, individual counselling offers a place to slow down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and begin reconnecting with yourself through compassion, curiosity, and practical support.

Is This Where You Are?

You might recognize yourself here if…

  • You feel disconnected from yourself or unsure who you are anymore.
  • You keep repeating the same relationship patterns.
  • You’re overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, or constant overthinking.
  • You struggle with boundaries or putting yourself first.
  • You’re emotionally exhausted from caring for everyone else.
  • You’re navigating grief, loss, separation, or another major life transition.
  • You want to heal from difficult experiences but don’t know where to begin.
  • You simply know something needs to change, even if you can’t quite explain what.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling. Many people simply know they don’t want to keep living the way they’ve been living.

Why Does This Keep Happening?

Most of us weren’t taught how to understand our emotions, care for our nervous system, or build healthy relationships.

Instead, we learned to survive.

Perhaps you became the people-pleaser, the perfectionist, the caregiver, the overthinker, or the one who learned to keep your emotions tucked safely away.

Those strategies often helped you at one point in your life.

But over time, they can leave you feeling disconnected—from yourself, from the people you love, and from the life you want to create.

Healing isn’t about judging those patterns or parts. And it’s not about asking “What’s wrong with me?”

It’s about understanding ourselves with curiosity and compassion so you have greater freedom to choose how you want to respond today.

The Untethered Heart Approach

Unlike some approaches that focus only on managing symptoms or changing behaviours, my work is relational, trauma-informed, and grounded in the belief that lasting change begins with understanding ourselves differently.

Together we’ll explore the experiences, beliefs, emotions, nervous system responses, and protective parts of yourself that have shaped who you are—not to place blame, but to create understanding, choice, and lasting change.

Our work often includes four interconnected areas of healing:

Understand Yourself

Gain insight into the experiences, beliefs, and relationship patterns that continue to influence your life today.

Care for Your Nervous System

Learn how your nervous system responds to stress, conflict, and past experiences so you can move from reacting automatically to responding with greater awareness.

Build Healthier Relationships

Healthy relationships begin with the relationship you have with yourself. As you develop greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and healthier boundaries, your relationships with others often begin to change as well.

Live with Greater Intention

Move beyond simply surviving toward living a life that feels more authentic, connected, and aligned with who you truly are.

A Compassionate Way of Understanding Yourself

One of the ideas many people find helpful is recognizing that we all have different parts of ourselves.

Perhaps there’s a part that worries, a part that strives for perfection, a part that keeps everyone happy, or a part that wants to withdraw when life feels overwhelming.

These parts didn’t develop because something is wrong with you. They developed to help you cope with life’s challenges.

Rather than trying to get rid of these parts, we’ll become curious about them, understand what they’re trying to protect, and help them feel less alone so you can respond from a place that feels calmer, wiser, and more connected.

What Counselling is Like With Me

Many people feel nervous before their first appointment.

That’s completely normal.

You don’t need to have your story organized or know exactly what you want to say.

We’ll begin wherever you are.

Some sessions involve exploring emotions and life experiences. Others focus on practical tools, relationship patterns, communication, or learning new ways to care for your nervous system.

We’ll move at a pace that feels safe, collaborative, and respectful of where you are today.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone different.

It’s about gently untethering yourself from the beliefs, patterns, and protective strategies that no longer serve you so you can reconnect with who you’ve always been beneath them.

What if I don't know what's wrong?

Many people begin individual counselling because they know something doesn’t feel right, even if they can’t put it into words. You don’t need to have everything figured out before booking.

Counselling is a space to slow down, become curious, and make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface. Together, we’ll explore what’s contributing to your struggles and identify the changes that will help you move forward.

Is individual counselling right for me?

It can be beneficial if you are:

  • feeling stuck
  • anxiety
  • relationship struggles
  • life transitions
  • wanting personal growth
  • wanting healthier relationships

Individual counselling provides a safe space where you can focus on understanding yourself and your patterns and work towards meaningful change in your life.

What happens in the first session?

Most people feel a little nervous about their first counselling session, which makes sense.

Upon booking your first session, you will receive a couple of emails from my JaneApp confirming your appointment time and a link to an intake/consent form. Completing your paperwork ahead of time allows me to review your concerns ahead of time and gives you time to reflect on consent. You will have an opportunity in the first session to review any concerns or questions. Consent is a way for us to understand the agreements that help us get off to a good start.

Our first session is really my opportunity to get to know you a bit and your reasons for coming to counselling at this time. It also gives you the opportunity to get a sense of who I am.

I like to think of our first session as more of a conversation where I ask more questions and you talk more. It might seem like our conversation is all over the place and that is ok, as it sets the foundation for the work we will do. I find that everything connects, so don’t worry!

Do you use specific counselling approaches?

I have what they like to call an eclectic approach, which means I use a little of this and a little of that. These are my favourites:

  • relational
  • trauma-informed
  • attachment
  • nervous system
  • parts work
  • practical strategies

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, information can only be shared if you have completed a written consent form. Howerver, there are limits to confidentiality when it comes to harm or risk to yourself or someone else or if I were to be subpoened. Confidentiality is an essential part of counselling and it is outlined on my consent form and it is always something we can talk more about if you have any concerns.
